This week many councils across England had elections for local councillors.
In the Test Valley, we stood 8 candidates across 6 borough wards. And although we didn’t win any seats in the borough, we did improve our proportion of the vote from 2019.
We would like to thank everyone who voted for us across the borough. We are deeply grateful for your support and we will continue to raise issues and push those who were elected to deliver greener and fairer communities.
At the national level, Greens performed brilliantly as our number of councillors increased by 241 to a record number of 481.
We were incredibly pleased to see our Green colleagues in neighbouring boroughs winning seats in Southampton and the New Forest. Many congratulations to Katherine Barbour (Portswood, Southampton), Adam Parker (Brockenhurst and Denny Lodge, New Forest) and Janet Richards (Downlands and Forest North, New Forest).
In a first for Greens, we also won our first outright control of a council in England – in Mid Suffolk. We hope this lays the groundwork for a second Green MP to be elected to Parliament in the forthcoming general election (likely to happen by the end of 2024).
We will continue to work hard for communities across the borough. Get in touch if you’d like to support our work or have an issue that you’d like us to pursue.
