We did it! Four target constituencies and four seats elected. There are now four Green MPs in Parliament – MPs who will not only be speaking up for their constituents but also for everyone who voted Green last night.
This result is an incredible breakthrough for the Green Party and shows how much appetite there is for something different from the status quo – an appetite for real hope and real change.
Carla Denyer in Bristol Central, Adrian Ramsay in Waveney Valley, Siân Berry in Brighton Pavillion, and Ellie Chowns in North Herefordshire will work hard for their constituents and be the Green MPs our country so desperately needs.
Four MPs is not our only historic victory tonight. We have reached a record national vote share too, with nearly two million votes and just under 7% of the national vote. People have voted for us everywhere – in rural areas which were former Conservative strongholds, and in cities where voters wanted something better than Labour’s timid policy offerings. People have embraced the chance to choose real hope and real change right across the country.
In the Test Valley our two wonderful candidates – Hina West for North West Hampshire, and Connor Shaw for Romsey and Southampton North – have both increased the Green share of the vote over previous general elections.
And this is just the start. The Test Valley Green Party has only been active as a group for two years. We will continue to engage locally and we will be back for the Hampshire County Council elections in 2025 and beyond, continuing to address concerns of local residents.
If you are interested in helping us to take the Test Valley Green Party to the next level, building for the future we all want to see, then get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
